The student is the third eldest of six siblings of a German family. At 14, she boasts many positive attributes, both academically and in other personal pursuits. She is exceedingly clever and achieves highly across the subject spectrum at school, occasionally receiving additional support from her siblings’ TI Tutors. Her English is almost flawless, and her top grades echo a studious nature and fierce dedication to succeed. She is a polite and confident individual. She is highly engaging and takes a leading role in debates. She is instinctively curious about the world around her, a trait encouraged by the MYP (Middle Years Programme) that she is changing from. Whilst studying MYP subjects at school, she had access to global perspectives and an environment fostering investigation and expression. However, most regrettably, her current school has failed to act satisfactorily on more local issues, such as cyber-bullying and trolling, which has had a predictably deleterious impact on her self-confidence and is of concern to the family.
Like her eldest sister, whose education is also delivered by TI tutors, she is an equestrian enthusiast, and an incredibly talented one at that. She is highly accomplished in equestrian events and as a dressage rider, having recently been ranked in the top four nationally for her age. This triumph will undoubtedly serve as an invitation to international competitions in the future, including extended travel and time away from home and conventional studies. She shows great maturity in relation to her future goals, which although not solely centred around her dressage endeavours, do indeed extend to European Championships in the sport. Beyond her studies, she aspires to own her own business one day.
She favours teachers who encourage in-depth topic discussion and also responds effectively to structured activities, for example following methodical steps to complete maths problems. Future study following the National University Virtual High School pathway will incorporate both focused teaching from her Tutor, along with time and tools to tackle assignments independently.
The Tutor will be joining a family well-acquainted with TI Tutors and their respective teaching ethics. Moreover, the student has already experienced the benefit of additional support following time-demanding competitions and equestrian training. However, for the first time, she will be the sole focus of a Tutor, who will effectively guide her through the learning journey that the American NUVHS courses have to offer. Furthermore, the Tutor will enhance subject material and teaching strategies to ensure that she continues to aim high and reach her full potential. Many student athletes favour such online courses, given the flexibility and dynamism that their programmes provide, in terms of scheduling around training, competitions and travel.
The Tutor will need to be highly flexible in relation to the student's equestrian commitments, notwithstanding possible travel to competitions and events where necessary, in order to keep up with schoolwork and academic expectations. They will, therefore, be open to regular exposure to animals and a frequently changeable calendar. The Tutor’s support will extend beyond the classroom, encompassing the role of a positive, well-mannered role model and mentor, in addition to offering inspiring teaching and endless learning opportunities, regardless of location, timing or subject.
In fact, the Tutor will be a strong ambassador for online US pedagogy and 21st century learning, promoting independent, driven individuals who are in control of their learning and goals. Such an education, under the most effective management, should provide a healthy balance of interactive, media-rich educational opportunities, along with strong academic foundations and a student-centred dynamic. The Tutor will incorporate and encourage the safe use of technology, facilitating contact with other students where appropriate, maximising access to the diverse population linked to the educational platform.
A proven track record and experience of delivering and tracking these online courses would be extremely beneficial to the role. The Tutor will respect the core values of the high school programme, providing imaginative opportunities for innovation, achievement, collaboration and unrivalled flexibility. The flexible Tutor should also expect to work with the student's older sister, helping with homework and possibly moving to the same path in the future.
Of some worry to the family and the student is the extent to which this educational move impacts on social opportunity, so it will be essential for the Tutor to find appropriate social avenues, such as Duke of Edinburgh or community service, for her to become involved in outside of schooling and training.
The Tutor will be required to work approximately 35 contact hours per week, with preparation time in addition. The timetable will be fully malleable and flexible around the student's equestrian pursuits. Teaching will follow remote learning courses, with the valuable addition of the Tutor’s tailormade material to extend the online classroom.
The Tutor is entitled to an average of two consecutive days off per week, which inevitably, will not always fall on weekends, depending on the student's commitments as a dressage rider. The Client will strive to provide up to two weeks’ notice of any changes to non-school days.
The Client will provide private, furnished accommodation, suitable for a couple, in Munich, and then in Münster when the family relocate to be closer to the equestrian facilities.
A car will be provided if needed for reasonable local use but with the excellent Munich public transport it is not likely be to needed much. The Client will be responsible for all accommodation bills, except for the Tutor’s personal phone bill.
The ideal Tutor will go above and beyond in ensuring a smooth transition from traditional to online learning, providing a presential pillar of support and wisdom to guide her through her studies. An intricate, well-balanced education will be of upmost priority, always respectful of sporting commitments outside of school.
In addition to leading a healthy lifestyle and as a non-smoker, it would be highly advantageous for the Tutor to share an equestrian hobby or affiliation to another similar sporting pastime, or at least a deep appreciation of the outdoors.
